Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, right?
I mention this because United Airlines is introducing new amenity kits this month, and with them, the carrier is paying homage to its long history. In April, United turns 90.
You'll remember American Airlines started this historic amenity kit thing in 2015, when it created nine retro kits, many in tribute to airlines that no longer exist, like AirCal, Reno Air, TWA and America West. Through a long series of mergers, all of those airlines eventually became part of what is today American Airlines.
United's shtick is a different. While American inserted goodies inside the kit that matched the airline it was celebrating - the eye shade in the AirCal kit, for example, was purple and yellow - United's tribute appears to be limited to the outside of the kit.
United's bags are being wrapped in postcards celebrating United's history. The inside will have standard airline swag with skincare products from Cowshed Spa.
