The Los Angeles Dodgers have a new official airline - and it is not a carrier you might expect.
The new sponsor is Emirates, which in July will launch its second daily Airbus A380 flight from Los Angeles to Dubai. Southwest has most recently been a sponsor of the Dodgers, and United was a sponsor before Southwest.
This season, you'll see Emirates signage at Dodger Stadium. The park will also feature the "Emirates Lounge," a 70-person space for "Emirates and guests," according to the press release.
"This new deal expands Emirates’ international footprint as a supporter of sports and culture, marking the airline’s entry into the world of baseball, a sport with deep roots in American history and culture," Emirates said in the release.
Also, of note, the Dodgers will sponsor the "Dubai Little League All Star Travel Teams." They'll now go by the name "Dubai Dodgers."
Emirates sponsors a bunch of high-profile soccer teams, including AC Milan, Real Madrid, Arsenal FC, Olympiacos FC, Hamburger SV, and Paris Saint-Germain. It also is a heavy supporter of international tennis. But I think this is the only baseball team it sponsors.
What do you think of this tie-up? Do you find it unusual?
