Air China promises it will make a "major announcement" Thursday at Los Angeles International Airport about its service between Los Angeles and Beijing.
Air China also promises some news regarding its operations at LAX. L.A. Mayor Eric Garcetti will be attending the news conference.
I confess I have no idea what Air China plans to announce. These "major" announcements are rarely that interesting, so I'll keep my expectations low. Maybe Air China will be sending one of its new Boeing 747-8 aircraft to L.A?
What do you think Air China is planning?
UPDATE: An airline source confirms my hunch that there will be no real news here.
Air China is expected to announce two matters. One, it will begin flying three times per day between Los Angele and Beijing starting in March. This is not actually news, since we've known about the third flight since December.
Also, Air China is moving from Terminal 2 at LAX to the Tom Bradley International Terminal. This will give Air China customers access to a fancy new terminal and a snazzy Star Alliance lounge. But otherwise, it doesn't mean much.
