Remember back in 2010 when Allegiant Air picked up six used Boeing 757s to fly to Hawaii?
It seemed like a great idea, but it never worked out as planned. Allegiant has tried a bunch of approaches with the 757s, first flying them from smaller cities, like Bellingham, Washington and then, when that did not work, using them to Honolulu from Los Angeles and Las Vegas. In addition to having trouble finding good markets, the airline also had some on-time problems with Hawaii.
Now the airline has given up, according to a video posted on YouTube. As of August 2016, Allegiant will stop flying to Hawaii. It will retire the 757s by 2017.
Are you surprised that Allegiant failed?
