Do you remember the Los Angeles International Airport of old?
I moved to Los Angeles in 2009, so I don't. But then I saw this movie, which shows how much promise the airport once had. Interestingly, the film correctly predicts that LAX would eventually become far too busy for the tight space that it occupies.
What the film did not accurately predict is that airlines would balk at serving outlying airports, such as Ontario, and that Los Angeles would never spend the money to develop a new international airport in Palmdale, far outside of the city. Los Angeles still owns about 17,000 acres in Palmdale, roughly 70 miles northeast of downtown. So who knows? Maybe that airport will someday get built. I doubt it, however.
