Over the weekend, pictures emerged of an unusually painted American Airlines jet. It has elements from three corporations -- America West, US Airways and American.
Airlines are nostalgic places, and they often like to honor their history. After America West essentially bought US Airways in 2005, management decided to drop the America West name. But they went ahead and painted four airplanes in what they call heritage liveries. Two of the airplanes were painted in America West colors, one was in Piedmont colors and another was in Pacific Southwest Colors. All those airlines were US Airways predecessors.
American is keeping the aircraft, but the management decided to tweak the paint job a bit.
