Associated Press photo essay shows ATL runway cleanup

Did you know that at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport workers volunteer their time to clear runways of debris?

Associated Press photographer David Goldman went along recently on one mission and compiled a fantastic photo essay. I recommend taking a peek at all of the images on AP's site. "Among the junk collected," Goldman wrote, were "pebbles, washers, ball-bearings and small bolts." He noted that damage from runway debris is estimated to cost the aerospace industry more than $4 billion annually.
