What's the world's shortest commercial flight?
This is not something I have given much thought to. But I recently learned of one of the world's shortest flights, so I figured I should share it here.
According to Routes Online, Austrian discount airline Fly Niki will start service next summer between Vienna and Bratislava, the capital of Slovakia. The post says the flight distance is about 50 kilometers, or 31 miles. The airline says the route is about 10 minutes in the air.
In the post, Routes Online calls the route, "the shortest commercial international flight." But it's possible Routes Online could be mistaken. Can you think of any routes that are shorter than 30 miles? (UPDATE: Gary Leff, the brains behind the excellent View from the Wing website, shared his thoughts, in the comments section, about some routes that are shorter than this one.)
Fly Niki, by the way, is an offshoot of Germany's Air Belin. It has a nifty paint job, as you can see below.
