LAX police spend $200,000 annually on ammuniton

Here's one I never would have expected: Police at Los Angeles International Airport spend up to $200,000 per year on live ammunition.

I know this because the airport is seeking a new three-year contract with Doley Enterprises, Inc. worth as much as $600,000.  Dooley is "...the authorized distributor for Winchester ammunition which is required for officers' duty weapons, and is essential for APD training and quarterly firearm qualifications," according to airport police.

Apparently the price for ammunition is going up, as the airport police have averaged $170,676 in costs for ammunition during the past three years.

I'm sure this a standard cost for police departments, but I certainly found it surprising.
